Where required, the Contractor shall install a temporary airtight tunnel and/or barrier
wall (prior to the start of any asbestos abatement Work) to maintain access through a
Work Area or Regulated Area, or to safely isolate the Work Area or Regulated Area.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01

PRE-ASBESTOS ABATEMENT PREPARATIONS

The Contractor shall excavate the soils around the Asbestos-Containing Materials to the
extent possible without disturbing or impacting the Asbestos-Containing Materials.

Prior to completion of excavation work, the Contractor shall set-up the Work Area as
follows:

1. Demarcate, at ground level, the boundaries of the Work Area and post required
warning signs meeting the requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101.

Glove Bags: Commercially made bags of 6-mil polyethylene shall be used.
Brands/designs are subject to the Engineer's review and acceptance.

Polyethylene Sheet: Provide flame resistant polyethylene film that conforms to
requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association Standard 701, Small
Scale Fire Test for Flame-resistant Textiles and Films. Provide largest size possible to
minimize seams, 6.0 mils thick as required, frosted or black, as indicated.

° Carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations exceed 5 PPM in the air
line between the filter bank and backup air supply,
. Compressor temperature exceeds normal operating range.

g. Compressor Motor: Provide a compressor driven by an electric motor.
Ensure that electrical supply available for the Work Area is adequate to
energize motor.

h. Compressor Location: Locate the compressor in a location that will not
impede access to the work area, and that will not cause a nuisance by
virtue of noise or fumes to adjacent areas.

Supplied Air Respirator Systems:

2.02

Damaged or deteriorated materials may not be used and must be promptly removed from
the premises. Material which becomes contaminated with asbestos-containing material
shall be packaged and legally disposed of in an approved, secure landfill.

All materials, tools, and equipment must comply, at a minimum, with this Specification,
and relevant federal, state, and local codes.

Fire Extinguishers: The Contractor shall locate comply with the applicable
recommendation of NFPA Standard 10 "Standard For Portable Fire Extinguishers." The
Contractor shall locate fire extinguishers where they are most convenient and effective
for their intended purpose, but provide no less than one extinguisher in each Work Area,
in Equipment Room, and one outside Work Area in Clean Room.

PERSONNEL PROTECTION

The Contractor shall provide personnel protection as required by all applicable
regulations.

construction period. The Contractor shall install temporary lighting adequate to provide
sufficient illumination for safe work and traffic conditions in every area of Work.

capacity to accommodate all electrical equipment required for completion of the
Work.
