Finance Committee — 4/5/2017 Page 2
Alderman Clemons

For those two species?

Director Marchant

Yes.

Mayor Donchess

This is a two-year contract if approved by the committee will need to go to the full Board of Aldermen.
Alderman O’Brien

Does this include divers as well to eradicate what doesn’t get chemically treated? Will we go in and try to
harvest the additional?

Director Marchant

No, the water chestnuts are the ones you need the divers and harvesting for. That was actually extremely
successful so we don’t have that problem so we don’t need divers.

Alderman Siegel

All that was in here, and | appreciate that. Also it was fairly clear from the communication that this is almost
necessary because there is blockage in waterways. Navigating the waterways for recreational boating is
becoming difficult. Then of course the neighbors have been complaining, and rightfully so, because of this
problem. | would highly recommend we do this.

Alderman Clemons

| think it is definitely something we should do particularly because the river is used a lot by many boaters.
Obviously we want the river to be navigable but the other issue is if we have a major problem like this it can
spread to other waterways by boats going in and out of different rivers and lakes. If Nashua does its job in
taking care of this problem, we are going to help prevent problems in other areas around the state. It’s
definitely a worthwhile cause.

Alderman O’Brien

Being a boater myself, do we have signage where we put our boats in to make sure that our boats are cleaned.
Director Marchant

We do have signage that we put up every year at the boat launch relocations about that, and also about the no
wake zone which is pretty much the entire river in Nashua of its width is so skinny. We do put up signage

every year. The Mayor will soon be doing a grand opening of an agreement we brokered with Millyard
Technology Park to allow their boat ramp to be public.

Alderman Siegel

| think we should do it on its own accord. The idea that we are somehow helping our neighbors is not
necessarily why we are doing this. These invasive species breed without any help from boats. Cleaning your
boats are all well and good but those things in the water don’t care about your boat. Let’s just vote for this.
