ON THE QUESTION
Alderman Clemons
What exactly are we eradicating from the river?
Director Marchant
Last year Madeline Mineau, the Waterways Manager, partnered with DES and for the first time we mapped the
invasive species on the Nashua River. We had a comprehensive mapping done. With a lot of volunteers, we
did a phenomenal job of pulling out all the water chestnuts. But because we didn’t treat right afterwards, the
Milfoil and fanwort essentially took over everywhere. This is a treatment is a series of treatment this year as a
one-time major expense that we will then be able to do very small treatments to keep it under control in the
future.
