Special Board of Aldermen 12-21-2021 Page 26
Alderman O’Brien
No, nobody from the Board.
President Wilshire
Okay, any further discussion in the chamber?
Alderman Caron
Thank you. | wasn't going to speak but | have a question though to the Board. How fast are you going to get this if
this is approved? How fast are you going to get this information out to the local businesses and get signs to them so
that they can get them up? That's number one.
Enforcing can be a real problem because | know it was the last time we had this. Unfortunately, people who don't
want to mask are not going to mask and they don't care. | understand what Alderman Clemons said that the people
who are in the hospitals that have COVID are unvaccinated but unfortunately, they are taking up space of people who
need those hospital beds because they have other issues. If they had just gotten vaccinated or put a mask on, we
wouldn't be in this predicament. | don't like to wear a mask but | don't go out of my house without a mask on. | know
that some of the grocery stores - all their staff wear masks. You're talking about an eight hour day. We're out there
maybe, you know, an hour and a half. But | think it's important that as a community and as a society, we should be
doing the right thing for our community. It's nothing personal to the members of the Board. We make that decision
based on what we feel is right for our community, whether you vote yes or no on this. It's your decision based on what
you feel is important to your community.
Now | thought about this all day since this came to us because I'm thinking a month how are we going to do this? The
more | hear and the more I’m listening, | just feel that it's the right thing to do. As Dr. Storace said, what happened to
society doing the right thing for their community? It's not about you. It's about what you need to do for the people
around you whether it's your family, your friends, or even strangers. So whatever the outcome is, we've made that
decision and those people as Alderman Klee mentioned that are putting up signs, and yelling, and screaming, you are
not helping yourself. You are totally being disrespectful. So I've changed my mind and | will be voting for this, this
evening. Thank you.
President Wilshire
