To the Members of the Board of Aldermen:
Charter Section 23 requires that the City Clerk “submit his record of the returns of each municipal
election to the board of aldermen...and the board of aldermen shall canvass the returns and declare
the result. Such declaration shall be duly recorded...”
Please be advised that the returns of the Special Municipal Election held on November 6, 2018, for the
purpose of filling a vacancy for the Fire Commission, showed that Kevin Burgess received 27,690 votes.
Attached is the ward summary of votes cast for this election.
This election was held in conjunction with the State General Election and the turnout was the highest,
for any candidate, in a Special Municipal Election. The overall total turnout for the State General
Election was 52.86%, while the overall voter turnout for the Special Municipal Election was 52.19%.
31,374 ballots were cast for the Special Municipal Election, while 31,776 ballots were cast for the State
General Election. Same day voter registrations totaled 2,978, so at the close of the polls, Nashua now
has 60,111 registered voters.
| would like to express my appreciation to the schools which host our polling locations, especially to
the custodians who make sure the schools are ready for when the Public Works crew arrive to set-up
the polling locations as well as the elected officials. Also, thanks to the Public Works crew which assist
in setting up and tearing down the polls, the Parks and Recreation crew who assist in setting up flags
and directional signs, to the Nashua Transit Authority who again offered free rides to the polls and to
the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for their support of the City Clerk’s Office.
| would like to issue a very special thanks to all our elected and appointed election officials, who had
to deal with a lot of diverse issues at this election, with long lines in both voter registration and ballot
check-in, as well as, issues tied with the handling of two ballots. They held themselves in an exemplary
manner and worked extremely hard during this very long day. Do to their dedication and support of
the election process, it protects the integrity of Nashua’s elections.
Sincerely,
Patricia D. Piecuch
City Clerk
