Discussion: The Street department has an excavator #12-105 that currently has 3575 hours on
the engine. Repairs are becoming more frequent to the cab accessories and the
hydraulics have frequent leaks and valve issues. The boom and arm pins and
bushings are wearing and getting loose. This unit #12-105 will be kept on as a
backline machine until repairs are no longer feasible.
This is a critical piece of equipment that will be used daily to maintain the City
infrastructure. The current tracked excavator requires it to be loaded on a flatbed
trailer for delivery and removal from the worksites requiring time for loading and
offloading.
Milton Cat has a Wheel Excavator that is able to be driven on the roads to and
from worksites saving the loading and offloading time improving response time, it
also comes equipped with a thumb allowing the pickup of large heavy objects
such as pipes and tree limbs / branches for loading into trucks for removal.
