Alderman O’Brien
Follow up if | may, Mr. Mayor.
Mayor Donchess
Yes.
Alderman O’Brien
So therefore relining of the system can grandfather us and push that back when the EPA does mandate it
then?
Mr. Hudson
Yeah, | mean your sewer mains are still going to stay your sewer mains if you separate the drainage, you
know, the storm water out of them. So regardless of what happens with the separation or not, it’s good value
still to preserve those sewer mains. You would be digging up and putting in a drainage main, you would hope
not to have to do a sewer main at the same and double the cost or more. So lining is a good value. Thankfully
we found that the brick sewers are actually in pretty good shape from what we’ve found inspectors. That was
one of our biggest fears was the older sewers were going to be in tough shape but it turns out some of the
unreinforced concrete pipe has not fared as well as some of the old brick mains which are beautiful to look at it
if you’re interested in that sort of thing. So we feel like we are in pretty good shape with those, but we will
continue to monitor through this program.
Alderman O’Brien
Thank you.
Mayor Donchess
