2.08 Sructural Prelirrinary Design
Based on the selected proposed action, detailed structural design will be performed,
including repairs to existing members (if necessary), removal of extraneous existing
members (as needed) and addition of new structural members (as required). CMA Engineers
will provide preliminary design parameters including layout geometry, construction details,
notes, specifications, and supporting design calculations for the selected structural
modifications to the bridge. CMA Engineers anticipates that the preliminary design will
consist of the following tasks:
a. Superstructure Modifications
Perform required analysis of any existing structural elements that will be
modified or receive additional loading as part of the addition of the proposed
walkway structure.
b. Deck Structure
Design of an ADA compliant walkway surface and any required framing to
carry proposed loads from the new deck down to the existing structure.
Determine the optimal deck elevation that minimizes approach grades and
works around existing primary structural bridge members.
c. Pedestrian Railing
Design of a pedestrian railing of similar or complimentary materials to the
proposed bridge superstructure. This task will also include the design of the
connection between the rail system and the new or existing
superstructure.
2.07 Lighting and Landscape Architecture
Advance the preferred alternative approved in Phase |
a. Design Refinement
Update and revise the lighting and landscape design in collaboration with CMA
Engineers. Incorporate construction details and sections
b. Construction Cost Estimate
Update estimate to reflect the preferred alternative
c. Submit Preliminary Design
Submit Phase 2.0 Preliminary Design documents to CMA Engineers for distribution to
the City and NHDOT for review and approval.
2.38 Pretirninary 2ighi-of-Way Activities
For this project, it is not expected that any formal acquisitions or permanent easements will
be required, and minimal temporary easements since the work is intended to remain within
City rights-of-way and existing easements. An initial inventory of potential impacts will be
prepared and submitted to the City for review. Formal documentation will be prepared in
Final Design (see 3.04).
