City of Nashua, Public Works Division

Board of Public Works Meeting Date: July 30, 2019

Jeff Lafleur, Superintendent
Solid Waste Department

Approval to purchase Two (2) Solid Waste Rear Load Packers

To approve the purchase of Two (2) Rear Load Packer Waste Collection Vehicles
from MeNeilus Truck, 941 Hemlock Road, Morgantown, PA in the amount of
$552,190 pending bond approval, pursuant to the Sourcewell Contract #112014-
MCN. Funding will be through Department 168 Solid Waste; Fund: Bond;
Activity: CERF.

MeNeilus Quotes and Vehicle History

The Solid Waste Department requires nineteen (19) trucks to collect trash,
recycling, soft yard waste and oversized items. The Solid Waste Department uses
rear load packers in areas of the city where the refuse can’t be accessed by the
automated fleet, and are critical in the fall when soft yard waste is collected.

The current fleet of packers is requiring increased maintenance due to their age
and mileage resulting in unscheduled downtime causing delays and overtime.

The rear load packers being replaced are trucks #12-078 and #12-086; both are
2012 Freightliners in service since 10/2011. #12-078 currently has 58,194 miles
and 9736 engine hours. #12-086 has 56,583 miles and 9474 engine hours. These
are a planned CERF replacement for FY20. The new rear load packers will be a
like for like replacement with CNG as the chosen fuel system to further
standardize the Solid Waste Fleet and continue with the City of Nashua’s efforts
to be green.

With the new replacements both trucks will be retained into backline assets for
use when demand is high or other trucks are down for maintenance or repairs.

We are confident in McNeilus’s product, experience, reputation and the
company’s ability to provide timely service, support and parts to the City. The
Solid Waste Superintendent and Fleet Manager recommend the purchase of the
trucks from MeNeilus, 941 Hemlock Road, Morgantown, PA.

All approvals are pending bond approval.
