Mr. Caggiano

There was one for years that they used our contract for. It was paid out of parking. They chose in the middle
of last year to remove that due to bad behavior going on in the parking garage. | think that problem went away.

MOTION CARRIED

From: Dan Kooken, Purchasing Manager
Re: 2018 Fourth of July Fireworks Display (Value: $16,500)

MOTION BY ALDERWOMAN KELLY TO ACCEPT, PLACE ON FILE AND AWARD THE CONTRACT TO
ATLAS PYRO-VISION ENTERTAINMENT GROUP IN THE AMOUNT OF $16,500. FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE
IN DEPARTMENT 177, PARKS AND RECREATION; GENERAL OPERATING FUND

ON THE QUESTION

Mr. Caggiano

This is our annual Fourth of July show that we produce at Holman Stadium. We went out for a four-year
contract. This will be year three. It is discounted down by going to a four-year deal. Next year we’ll be okay
and then we will have to go out to bid. We have really tried to stay consistent. | think in 30 years this is only
the third vendor that we have ever used. They are really good people. They have a local store on Amherst
Street. If any of you have gone to the shows, they are, and I’m not bragging, spectacular. They are really,
really good fireworks display.

Alderman Caron

Back when | was running Fourth of July, | used to count the fireworks. How are we doing? Do we have the
exact number?

Mr. Caggiano

| count them every year. | have the original clicker that you gave me 17 years ago.
Alderman Caron

| have to say 40 some odd years of fireworks as Nick said, we’ve only had three companies. They have been
super to the city. They have really worked well with us, even with the issues we’ve had over the years. You
learn about fireworks when you work for Parks and Rec. | commend our city for doing this and putting this on
for this amount of time. | think your staff deserves some good vibes on that. | appreciate it even though |
haven't seen the fireworks in ten years.

Mr. Caggiano

It's along day. It’s just not the parks and rec staff. They work hard. | work there all day, but we also have to
coordinate with the fire marshal’s office and police. | think just about every officer is on that day. They have
bomb dogs that go around and check and make sure after the show that there’s no unexploded shells on the
field. It’s quite a production.

Alderman O’Brien

| would like to echo Alderman Caron’s remarks. It is a lot of work with the fire marshal, police and coordination.
Justin Kates is involved too with the emergency operations. It is very important because we are doing
something for the people and they really seem to enjoy it. It's a summertime event. Other events are going on
during the day. It’s a good family fun day. It also hits the safety margin. We put on a good show so the
