converted many landfills to solar farms. TRC has tested the landfill gas and emissions from the
engines and turbines.
Some of the FMG facilities that TRC has worked at include:
MA — Taunton, Halifax, New Bedford, Brockton
VA — Richmond
NY — Albany
Casella
Casella is recovering landfill gas so it can be used as an energy
resource. Casella and its partners are now producing roughly 25
megawatts per hour of clean energy at five of the company's
landfills. This clean energy is enough to power approximately 25,000 homes and results in
substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. To capture the methane gas before it can
escape to the air, a series of wells is connected to a powerful vacuum which actively pulls it to
the power generation plants where it is converted to electricity.
The Casella facility that TRC has worked at is:
NY — Clinton County
