Standard Hatch Safety Grate fue
The access opening shall have a permanently installed fall-through protection grate system that provides
safety features in both its open and closed positions. When closed, it provides fall through protection.
When open, it acts as a vertical barrier. The 4" x 6” grate openings allow visibility for routine maintenance
while the grate remains closed and locked, reducing the risk of fall-through. The system shall be a Standard
Hatch Safety Grate as manufactured by USF Fabrication, Inc., Hialeah, FL, 1-800-258-6873 or approved equal.
The Fall-Through protection system shall consist of a grate made of 6061-T6 aluminum and be designed
to withstand a minimum pedestrian load of 300 lbs. per square foot. The grate openings shall be 4” x 6".
The grate will pivot on stainless steel hinges with 316 SS hardware. A316 stainless steel hold-open device
will engage to hold the grate in its full upright and locked position. The grate shall operate independent of
the cover’s reinforcing so that the cover will continue to meet specified load and deflection requirements,
even if the grate is damaged or removed. An aluminum pull rod will be attached to the grate so the operator
is positioned with the grate between him and the hatch’s opening whenever he pulls on it to raise the
grate. The hatch cover will not be able to shut until the grate is closed--thereby insuring the grate is in
position when the next operator opens the hatch cover. The grate shall be powder-coated with an OSHA
safety orange to increase visual awareness of the safety hazard.
Installation of the fall-through protection syste shall be in accordance with the instructions provided
by the manufacturer. The complete grate assembly shall be warranted against defects in material and
workmanship for a period of 10 years from the date of purchase.
ASG or TSG Series (300 Ibs. per square foot or 16,000 pound loading) Aluminum
Access Door with Integral Safety Grate
The floor access door shall be Model ASG ~ angle style frame or TSG - trough style, drainable frame for
300 Ibs. per square foot or 16,000 pound loading. Manufactured by USF Fabrication with the size being
specified on the plans. Door leaf shall be 1/4” thick aluminum diamond plate with integrated safety grating
fall-through protection reinforced for a 300 Ibs. per square foot combined live load or 16,000 pound loading
for areas that may receive incidental vehicle traffic. Safety grating consists of an aluminum grate with
4" x 6" openings that rotates on hinges that are welded to the hatch frame. Safety grating shall be
powder-coated with safety orange color. The safety grate shall lock in its full upright position utilizing a
316 stainless steel hald-open arm. The safety grate will include a padlock staple to allow a padlock to lock
the grates in their closed position. The frame shall be manufactured from 1/4" aluminum material. The
floor access door shall be equipped with a flush drop handle that does not protrude above the cover and a
316 stainless steel hold open arm with red vinyl grip that locks the cover in its full upright and open position.
The door shall have 314 stainless steel hinges and 316 stainless steel tamper resistant bolts/locknuts. A
recessed padlock hasp with spring-loaded cover shall be supplied for security. An adhesive-backed vinyl
material, that protects the product during shipping and installation, shall cover the entire top of the frame
and cover. Installation shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's attached instructions. The door shall
be manufactured and assembled in the United States. Manufacturer shall guarantee the door against
defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 10 years.
Hatch Safety Net
The Hatch Safety Net's polyester netting is made of one inch [1"] wide strap material in OSHA safety orange
with nominal 5" x 5" openings. The net attaches to aluminum angle anchors that are either welded to the
hatch’s frame or secured below the frame with anchor bolts. The anchors are located on opposite sides of
the hatch opening. The net is attached on one side by stainless steel shackles, on the other side by stainless
steel spring clips that can be detached easily from the aluminum angle anchors to allow access to the vault
area. The Hatch Safety Net complies with OSHA standard 1926.502 {c} [4] [i] Drop Test. The complete net
assembly is warranted against defects in material and workmanship for up to one (1) year after purchase.
