SECTION 02200

EARTHWORK

PART 1 - GENERAL

11 SCOPE OF WORK

A.

CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals
necessary to excavate and backfill trenches for the landfill gas collection and
control system as shown on the Drawings and specified herein, including, but
not limited to: excavation, disposal, and/or replacement of waste; placement
and compaction of earth materials; and grading.

12 SUBMITTALS

A.

CONTRACTOR shall submit to ENGINEER laboratory test results for each type
of material proposed a minimum of 15 days prior to its use.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL

A.

All earth materials, unless otherwise specified, shall consist of clean soil
substantially free from organic materials, wood, trash, and other objectionable
materials that may be compressible or that cannot be properly compacted.
Earth materials shall not contain stone blocks, broken concrete, masonry
rubble, or other similar material. Earth materials shall have physical
properties such that it can be readily spread and compacted to the specified
density. Snow, ice, and frozen material shall not be permitted.

Non-hazardous chemically contaminated soil provided by OWNER may be
used as backfill within the landfill.

Unless otherwise specified, the maximum particle size shall be no larger than
two-thirds the loose lift thickness.

2.2 MATERIALS

Trench backfill material to be provided by CONTRACTOR.

Crushed Stone used as backfill shall be hard, durable, resistant to weathering
and to water action, free from overburden, spoil, and organic materials.
Crushed stone shall be washed, and uniformly blended according to the
grading requirements for the respective particle sizes shown in the following
table.
