force that can be exerted on the pipe without damaging the
integrity of the pipe or pipe joints. The installation head or
mechanism shall incorporate a gauging system, which will provide
a continuous monitor of the force being applied during the liner
insertion operations. The insertion force used by the Contractor
shall in no case exceed the maximum allowable pushing or pulling
force as calculated in the liner pipe design. Pipe spigots shall be
provided with “homing” marks to ensure that the joint is properly
completed.

If the liner pipe cannot or is not pushed or pulled continuously
through a manhole base section, then the Contractor shall provide a
smooth and continuous transition through the manhole from one
liner pipe section to the next. A non-shrink grout shall be used to
obtain a smooth and continuous transition through a manhole when
the liner pipe is not carried through the manhole.

B. Pneumatic Hammer Assisted Sliplining

1.

Prior to sliplining installation, during excavation of the insertion
pit, the contractor shall layout and fuse two lengths of HDPE
suitable for lining in each direction from the insertion pit as shown
on the drawings.

During installation the Contractor shall pull the renewal pipe into

place utilizing a constant tension, variable speed winch. The

winch shall:

a. Be equipped with a telescoping boom

b. Accommodate setup in existing manhole structures with no
structure modifications, unless approved by Engineer in
writing.

c. Be capable of applying 12 tons of constant line tension.

d. Not be capable of exceeding tensile strength of affixed
winch cable.

e. Lower winch unit pulley assembly must rotate 360°
allowing winch to be oriented in any direction.

f. Load dispersing winch mast legs shall be designed to accept
Expander assembly and new pipe entirely into manhole
without structural manhole modification.

The contractor shall utilize a pneumatic powered, reversible
direction hammer. The hammer shall be capable of insertion into
the renewal pipe from the tail end, travel through the renewal pipe,
pass partially through a hardened steel expander head, and attach to
constant tension variable speed winch.
