specification of Section 2.1.1. of the Standard Specifications of the New Hampshire
Department of Transportation.
Prior to scarifying and pulverizing the existing pavement, the Contractor shall locate and
protect existing drainage and utility structures and underground pipes, culverts, conduits
and other appurtenances to a depth appropriate to allow for the 13 inches (+/-) of
reclamation. If the upper section of utilities is removed to facilitate scarifying and
pulverizing the existing pavement, the remaining part of the structure shall be immediately
covered with a steel plate capable of withstanding a 36.5-ton truckload with impact. The
Contractor, at his expense, shall be responsible for removing and storing all frames, grates
and covers from existing or removed catch basins, manholes and water gate covers. The
Contractor shall be held responsible for the protection of the casting. The Contractor, at his
expense, shall replace any frames, grates or covers, damaged in any manner during the
process of the Construction with new castings. The Contractor shall make adjustment of
the structures to line and/or grade or both line and grade.
The Contractor shall reclaim only that area of pavement that can be processed and
compacted by the end of the same working day, at which time it must be open to traffic,
with the Engineer's approval. One-way traffic will be allowed only during working hours
with proper traffic controls. Two-way traffic shall be maintained at all other times.
Suttable ramping shall be in place at the beginning and end of each work zone to allow for
smooth and safe travel. This shall be considered incidental to the work for this item. The
required density shall be maintained until the bituminous concrete pavement has been
placed. Any imperfections discovered prior to the placement of bituminous concrete shall
be repaired, as directed by the Engineer, at no additional compensation. All unsuitable
material and/or excess reclatmed material shall be properly disposed of outside the
project limits at no additional cost to the Owner at the Nashua Landfill.
The Contractor shall compact nine inches (9”’) of reclaimed subbase to not less then
95 percent of the maximum dry density of the material as determined by AASHTO Standard
Method of test T-99, Method C at optimum moisture content without additional cost to the
Owner.
Type 2 requirements: The Contractor shall coordinate with the Owner and Engineer for
final grading with respect to roadway elevations and drainage. The Contractor shall
remove and relocate or dispose of material as needed to maintain the existing curb reveal.
Paved roadway surfaces shall be restored to existing grades where applicable with the
placement of 4 inches of new bituminous concrete, placed in three layers; 1 inch of Top
Course over 3 inches of Base Course (two equal lifts). The Contractor 1s responsible for
placing all new bituminous concrete in a manner as to follow the existing road profile.
All existing driveways shall be sawcut at the direction of the Engineer and all bituminous
concrete shall be excavated up to the face of the sawcut. The Contractor 1s responsible for
placing all new bituminous concrete in a manner as to meet existing driveway grades.
The Contractor shall be responsible for maintaining proper drainage of street runoff during
the Construction.
