Class II Asbestos Work: Activities involving the removal of ACM which ts not
thermal system insulation or surfacing material. This includes, but 1s not limited
to the removal of Asbestos-Containing wallboard, floor tile and sheeting, roofing
and siding shingles, and construction mastics.

Clean or Decontaminate: To make a surface free of all visible or optically-
detectable fibers by final cleaning and decontamination methods selected by the
Contractor, including, at a minimum, thoroughly HEPA-vacuuming and Wet
Cleaning with suitable tools and equipment.

Competent Person: In addition to the definition in 29 CFR 1926.32(f), an
individual who is capable of identifying existing Asbestos hazards in the Work
Area and selecting the appropriate control strategy for Asbestos exposure, and
who has the authority to take corrective measures to eliminate them. In addition,
for Class I and II Work, this individual must be trained 1n a training course which
meets the criteria of EPA's Model Accreditation Plan (40 CFR 763) for Project
Designer or Supervisor, or its equivalent.

Contractor: The General Contractor or Asbestos abatement subcontractor
responsible for performing the Work.

Curtained Doorway: A device which consists of at least three overlapping sheets
of plastic over an existing or temporarily framed doorway. One sheet shall be
secured at the top and left side, the second sheet at the top and right side, and the
third sheet at the top and left side. All sheets shall have weights attached to the
bottom to insure that the sheets hang straight and maintain a seal over the
doorway when not in use.

Decontamination Facility (DF) or Decontamination Unit: A series of connected
rooms or spaces including Clean and Shower Rooms, and contaminated Dirty
(Equipment) Room, each separated by an Air Lock; and used for the
decontamination of all workers, and their personal protective equipment leaving
an Asbestos removal Work Area, as well as for access to such Work Areas.

Demolition: The wrecking or taking out of any building component, system,
finish or assembly of a facility together with any related handling operations.

Disposal Bag: 6-mil thick leak-proof plastic bags used for packaging Asbestos
waste and transferring from the Work Area to disposal site. Each bag should be

labeled in accordance with EPA's NESHAPS, OSHA, and DOT regulations.

Disturb: To alter, change, or stir, such as but not limited to the removal,
encapsulation, enclosure, or repair of Asbestos-Containing Material.
