The Contractor shall retain the services of an Asbestos Abatement Contractor to respond
to the unexpected discovery of ACM within the Contract Limits. The Asbestos
Abatement Contractor shall perform removal and disposal in accordance with the
Contractor's work schedule unless the condition of the asbestos-containing material
presents a hazard to the general public or the environment in which case the Asbestos
Abatement Contractor shall perform removal within 24 hours of identification of said
condition. The Engineer will be responsible for making this determination. The
Asbestos Abatement Contractor shall have a current State of New Hampshire Abatement
Contractor's License and meet other qualification requirements specified.

All asbestos removal Work is to be performed in accordance with these Specifications,
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), National Institute of
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), New Hampshire Department of
Environmental Services and other state and local regulations. Wherever there is a
conflict or overlap of the above references, the most stringent provisions apply (see
Subsection 1.07 for specific requirements).

It is not unusual for the Contractor to discover unidentified ACM during construction. It
is within the Contractor's scope of Work to abate the unidentified ACM. Payment for
the removal and disposal of unidentified ACM shall be as described in SECTION 01270
MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT.

Upon initial discovery or impact of suspect ACM, the Contractor shall immediately stop
any work that may disturb the suspect ACM and notify the Engineer. The Contractor
shall also cordon off the area, cover the suspect ACM with 6-mil polyethylene sheeting,
and await further directions from the Engineer. Suspect ACM that may be impacted by
the Work include, but are not limited to the following: pipe insulation (except for
fiberglass, rubber or foam), concrete duct banks that may contain cement asbestos pipes
and cloth wrapping or insulation on electrical cable.

The Engineer will collect and analyze a representative sample(s) of the suspect material
to determine if it contains asbestos. If the suspect material is confirmed to contain
asbestos, the Engineer will direct the Contractor to proceed with the asbestos abatement

in accordance with the Contract Documents.

Asa description of the general scope of Work, the Asbestos Abatement Contractor shall
provide as a minimum, the following services:

1. Hand excavate an area around the ACM as needed.

2. Remove all ACM and substrate piping from the work area, according to the
procedures detailed in this Section.

3. Thoroughly clean each work area.
