STEAM HEATING SYSTEMS
PIPING AND SPECIALTIES

a. 1-1/2 inches and larger steel: welded.
b. 1-1/4 inches and smaller steel: screwed or welded.
c. All copper: silver solder joints.

Valves (general):

1. Gate Valve: Screwed brass, wedge disc, rising stem union bonnet, 125 PSI
steam, Stockham B-105.

2. Glove Valve: 150 PSI steam, screwed brass body, union bonnet, renewable
seat, plug seat, Stockham B29.

3. Check Valves: 200 PSI steam, screwed bronze or cast iron body replaceable or
regrinding disc, Stockham B-345.

4. Externally Piloted Pressure Reducing Valve: 20:1 rangeability, hardened
stainless steel working parts, Armstrong GP-2000 or equivalent.

Strainer: Screwed bronze or cast iron body, Y pattern, 250 PSI, 450 degrees’ steam,

monel, stainless steel or bronze screen.

Traps:

1. Float and Thermostatic:

a. Cast iron or semi-steel body.
b. Stainless steel float.
c. Balanced pressure phosphor bronze diaphragm type air vent.

2. Inverted Bucket Trap
a. Cast iron trap.

b. Stainless steel, free-floating valve mechanism.

Thermometers:

1. Furnish brass immersion thermowells where indicated on the Drawings.

2. Furnish two additional immersion thermometers suitable for all thermowells for
use in balancing and by operating personnel.

3. Furnish and install where shown on the drawings 9-inch separable socket
mercury thermometer with a range of 30 degrees to 240 degrees F. Provide
adjustable angle type where required for proper visibility. Equal to Trerice
industrial thermometers.

Pressure Gauges:

1. | Furnish pressure gauge connections where shown consisting of /%-inch take-off
any globe valve.

2. Furnish 0-100 PSI, 3-1/2-inch pressure gauge where indicated. Equal to Trerice
Model 601.

Expansion Compensator: Brass or cast iron body with stainless steel or brass bellows

capable of 1-inch minimum change in length.

Entire heating system shall be installed in a neat and workmanlike manner.

Provide offsets in all pipe to place in proper position and avoid work of other trades.

Eccentric fittings shall be used to reduce the size of the mains to allow condensate
drainage.

Make proper allowances for the expansion and contraction of all piping. Piping shall
