| am pleased to share Salt Lake’s experience in working with Welcoming America and the
advantages of tapping into a network of supporting peers throughout the nation.
The Salt Lake region is a fast-growing, increasing diverse area. In responding to the needs of
our residents, Salt Lake County recognized the opportunity to engage in the creation of
comprehensive strategies to maximize the contribution of new Americans now, and in the
future. To succeed our local initiative must build on national best practices. Salt Lake County’s
partnership with Welcoming America reaches its one-year anniversary this month. In spite, our
community’s independent spirit and our preferences of state/ local sovereignty, our
partnership with Welcoming Amerian is valuable. Welcoming America has provided us with the
opportunities to network, valuable one-on-one technical assistance, and access to webinars.
Being a welcoming community is vital to our future. Similar to the National Association of Counties
(NACO), the National League of Cities (NLC), Welcoming America provides programs/services, education
development, research/data and communication tools to help you achieve your community’s welcoming
objectives.
