splices.
5. All splices shall be made only by specific permission of the Engineer and
then only in manholes or pull boxes and shall be sealed watertight with a
heat-shrunk insulation.
6. Tighten electrical connectors and terminals in accordance with
manufacturer’s published torque tightening values. Where manufacture’s
torqueing requirements are not indicated, tighten connectors and terminals
to comply with tightening torques specified in UL Standards 486A and
A86B.
7. Use UL listed splice for all underground wires, ducts buried, in conduit
and in ducts. Connectors and splices shall be waterproof.
PART 3 —- EXECUTION
3.01 WIRE AND CABLE INSTALLATION
A.
All wire and cables shall be installed in conduit of size and type indicated on the
drawing and specifications.
Install electrical cables, wires, and connectors in compliance with NEC.
Pull conductors simultaneously where more than one is being installed in same
raceway. Use UL listed pulling compound or lubricant, where necessary.
Use pulling means including, fish tape, cable, rope, and basket weave wire/cable
grips which will not damage cables or raceways. Do not use rope hitches for
pulling attachment to wire or cable.
Conceal all cable in finished spaces.
Install exposed cable parallel and perpendicular to surfaces or exposed structural
members, and follow surface contours, where possible.
Conductors shall be sized such that voltage drop does not exceed 3 percent for
branch circuits or 5 percent for feeder/branch circuit combination.
Provide adequate length of conductors within electrical enclosures and train the
conductors to terminal points with no excess. Bundle multiple conductors, with
conductors larger than No. 10 AWG cabled in individual circuits. Make
terminations so there is no bare conductor at the terminal.
All feeder and branch circuit wiring shall be color coded at all termination and
splice locations. System neutrals shall be designated in addition to phase
conductors. Equipment grounds shall be green.
