Subject: | would like to be considered for Ward 7 Alderman
Dear Nashua Alderwomen and Aldermen,
As you think about the task of filling the seat for Alderman/Alderwoman for Ward 7 recently vacated
by John Cathey, | would like to be considered for this position on the board. As you might already
know, | ran against John in the 2021 election and lost by only 52 votes. Considering that this was
such a close election, | believe it shows that | already have the endorsement of a great many people
in Ward 7.
As you already might know, | spent a four-year term as a member of the Nashua Board of Education,
where | served on the Joint Special committee with the Aldermen on planning and making decisions
for our new middle school. | also gained much experience on the budgeting of the school district as
well as experience on other issues involving our schools and public education.
As you might not know about me, | have a background in city planning and transportation planning. |
have spent the last 40 years of my career in both the private and public sectors as a transportation
planner producing traffic congestion and traffic safety studies. Before that, | owned my own small
business as a partner with my brother, in a pizza and sandwich shop, so | understand the perspective
of small business.
My career skills as a planner and work experience, are directly applicable to municipal issues, such
as zoning, economic development, DPW, and public health.
Despite the sometimes polarizing nature of politics, | take pride in my record on the BOE, which
shows that | have worked well with those who are in a different political party and who believe in good
governance, such as Sandra Zeihm and the late Bill Mosher, both of whom | had the pleasure of
working with and serving with on the BOE. | also had the pleasure of serving on the BOE with now
Alderwoman Gloria Timmons.
| do believe Nashua is going in the right direction, | see good things happening in our downtown, as
we come out of the doldrums of the pandemic. | appreciate everything the aldermanic board in
Nashua has done to keep our residents safe through the crisis. Now that we are mostly out of it, we
face a lot of fiscal challenges, and | am willing to be part of the solutions to problems and an advocate
