2022 Pavement Preservation Map and Preservation Street List by Ward
The formation of cracks in roadways is inevitable, and once present they will evolve
as the asphalt pavement ages, oxidizes and deteriorates. To slow the rate at which
these distresses form, we are seeking to apply crack sealant to approximately 16.5
miles of City streets, over cracked sections of pavement to waterproof the asphalt
surface to protect underlying layers. This treatment is a routine maintenance
application proven to extend an asphalt pavement’s service life for 1-3 years and
delay the need for more extensive and costly treatments.
We are also proposing to apply asphalt rejuvenators/fog sealant to newer pavement
surfaces by applying this treatment to approximately 5 miles of Arterial and
Collector roadways. This product provides a cost-effective solution to penetrate the
top 3/8 of a roadway’s surface, soften the asphalt binder and improve cohesion
while also slowing the propagation of cracks. Through this process, oxidizing
pavement is revitalized and the overall loss of fines and aggregates is reduced. This
treatment extends the service life of asphalt pavement for up to three years with
each application.
The above work was advertised for bids and Sealcoating, Inc. of Braintree, MA was
the sole bidder. They are a qualified provider of the services and performed similar
work for the City last year.
