In conclusion; This property presents a unique opportunity for the city to preserve, protect, and defend the
essence of Greeley Park for current and future generations of Nashua. There is no “undo” button, no 2nd
chance if this opportunity is lost. This wooded lot would be lost forever and every future generation of
Nashuans that walk the trails on the Westside will be forced to look at back alleys of a condo development
There are options for federal, state, private, and nonprofit funding for this that can mitigate the cost to the city
but these options need time to pursue and the only way to buy that time is for the city to send a message to
Thorndike of the intent to buy the land. Mr Geisinger (Thorndike President) stated on November 17th he would
step away if the city wanted to buy it or there was widespread opposition. There are 2,835 (and growing)
signatures on a petition opposed to the condo development. If the city also shows Mr Geisinger of the desire to
buy the land by passing R-21-202, and Mr Geisinger keeps his word and backs away, it will allow time to
pursue these other funding options and mitigate the need for a bond issuance.
The question for this Board is whether you want your legacy to be expanding Greeley Park and preserving this
natural resource for another 125 years or do you want to be remembered for allowing a high end condo
development that will be bought by people outside Nashua and may cost more in services than it generates?
