In discussing the proposed legislation, both Clerk Lovering and Ms. Graham do not believe the duties prescribed
in the ordinance are sustainable by either office, particularly as it pertains to specifying each date every piece of
legislation is discussed at a committee meeting. Hundreds of bills are introduced over the term, many of which
are tabled indefinitely. Tracking each and every time a bill is mentioned at a standing committee is not feasible
without some type of software program in place.
As of this writing, Clerk Lovering and Ms. Graham are unaware of any software that exists to track legislation
to the detail described in the proposed ordinance. Therefore, it is respectfully requested that the ordinance
remain tabled to allow time to explore sustainable alternatives. In the interim to assist in electronic legislative
research, the City Clerk’s Office has posted the above-described legislative logs dating back to 1970 on the
city’s website.
