Dear Alderpersons of Nashua:
Jam writing as a Ward 3 resident and local pediatrician asking that you support the masking legislation.
lam a pediatrician in Nashua, and | live on Berkeley St.
Masking is such a simple “ask” to help protect everyone. I’m exhausted. My colleagues are exhausted. Last night | had to
prepare the family of an ill young child that if they needed to go to the ED to prepare for an hours-long wait to be seen. |
pray | never have to be calling a family to give my condolences that their child has died from Covid. | pray that should
those families that CHOOSE not to protect themselves and their children/teens by getting vaccinated (or getting their
vaccine-eligible kids vaccinated) that | won’t be attending their or their child/teen’s funeral.
It’s mind-boggling even to me who lives in the medical world that the Omicron variant is MORE contagious than delta.
We’re inundated with Covid-illness right now due primarily to delta—the Omicron storm has just started and it’s going
to be messy and widespread. Vaccination will never be mandated in our country, so we absolutely are obligated to
provide as many other layers of public-health protection available to us. Masking is easy, it’s something >99% of the
population can easily do without any downsides except fogging of glasses and awkwardness. We've given folks the
chance to do this individually, but it’s not working.
Thanks for all you do.
Respectfully,
Lila H Monahan, MD, FAAP
