ORDINANCE
RELATIVE TO SEASONAL ROAD CLOSURES AND ELIMINATION OF CERTAIN
ON-STREET PARKING FOR USE BY RESTAURANTS FOR OUTDOOR DINING
CITY OF NASHUA
In the Year Two Thousand and Twenty-One
WHEREAS, due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Board of
Aldermen approved legislation (O-20-015 and O-21-050) seeking to assist restaurants through
the negative impacts of COVID-19 by accommodating expanded outdoor dining in areas
abutting and directly in line with a restaurant’s property;
WHEREAS, the expanded outdoor dining has proven to be a successful economic
stimulant for the City;
WHEREAS, in addition to the positive economic impact the expanded outdoor dining
has had in the City, COVID-19 continues to negatively affect the health and economy of Nashua
through continued transmissions, illness and new variants such as the Delta variant, and this
negative influence is reasonably expected to last a period of years; and
WHEREAS, this legislation authorizes the temporary seasonal closure, for a period of
months in each of the next three years, of portions of certain roads to vehicular traffic,
elimination of some on-street parking, and relocation and creation of some handicap parking
while recognizing that the situation is dynamic.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT. RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of
Nashua that the roads and on-street parking as depicted on the attached maps which are
incorporated herein, shall be modified and portions closed, parking spaces eliminated, and
handicap parking spaces relocated and created as shown on the map each year for the following
three years, 2022, 2023 and 2024, from March 15" through November 15".
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that upon recommendation of the Director of Public
Works and the Parking Manager, the Mayor may approve additional road closures, elimination
of on-street parking and creation of handicap spaces to accommodate outdoor dining locations.
