Equity versus Equality
Equity means giving everyone
access to resources and
opportunities that they need
to improve the quality of their
situation. Equity acknowledges
and recognizes that treating
every individual or group
the same or equally, will
not necessarily lead to fair
opportunities to succeed.
Each person has different
circumstances and an
equitable approach will take
into account these unique
needs of individuals and
groups in the city and provide
options and opportunities to
reach their full potential.
Avision statement serves many
purposes in a citywide plan. In
the same way that a citywide
plan serves as a steady guide to
inform future municipal policies
and programs, a vision statement
serves a similar purpose within
a citywide plan itself. Imagine
Nashua’s vision statement was
crafted collaboratively between
the City, the Steering Committee,
individuals who attended the
public meetings and focus groups.
It is a single statement that
captures what Nashua wants
to accomplish as a city and
community, reflects the ideal
quality of life we aspire to achieve
in Nashua, and where we desire to
be in the near and long term future.
