President McCarthy

Last week Nashua lost a couple of good friends of this Board: former Alderman Britton and a long-time state
representative, Angie Kopka, and | would ask that we observe a moment of silence in memory of them.

REMARKS BY THE MAYOR

Mayor Donchess

As we all know we had our election yesterday and many people came to the polls and | wanted to especially
commend City Clerk Piecuch and her entire staff for working very long and very hard towards a very
successful result. The city registered several thousand people before the election using the extended hours
that the City Clerk’s office set up and then registered over 5,000 people yesterday at the polls for a total of
almost 10,000 people. The City Clerk’s staff worked through the entire weekend. There were some glitches
that could have resulted in problems; the Secretary of State didn’t give us enough ballots and some of them
might have been smudged but Ms. Piecuch worked through all of those problems with her staff and all of the
people who worked in the polls. We had the regular poll workers, the moderators and others but also special
people who were registering new voters all day long at all of the polling places. Everyone did a great job and
the results were reported quickly and efficiently with no problems and in a big election like this that is not an
easy job. Two of our own members here were up for re-election yesterday. | would like to congratulate
Alderman O’Brien and Alderman LeBrun on their re-elections to the House. In the coming term we as a city
want to work carefully with our legislative delegation and members elsewhere to advance Nashua’s interests
and the interests of municipalities across the state. | will be holding a meeting for the new members of the
legislature in the coming weeks, probably in December and the Board of Aldermen would be very welcome to
attend. We will let you know when we schedule that.

Tomorrow night is the budget meeting where we are going to discuss some of the unique challenges that we
face in next weeks’ budget. It will be upstairs in the City Hall Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. and | hope as many of
you as possible can make it. We've invited all of the other Boards that participate in the city budgeting
process as well. We want to begin the discussion now on the issues that we will be looking at and begin to
get the community input both from the people who are direct participants but also voters and other citizens
and community members.

On Friday, as | am sure you know, we have the Veteran’s Day Parade which will kick-off in the morning at
Holman Stadium. We expect a good crowd and | think the weather is supposed to be pretty good so | hope
as many of you as possible can join us. There is also a lunch afterwards at the Elm Street Middle School
Cafeteria for those who are interested.

Finally, | would like to join President McCarthy in expressing sorrow for the deaths of the two leading citizens
that passed away over the last couple of weeks. Angie Kopka who was 100 years old and who has been a
very prominent citizen in Nashua for a long time and also Fred Britton who | knew when | was in city
government before and | think some of you served with him on the Board of Aldermen. They will both be
missed.
