PERSONAL DAYS
Regular Full-Time Employees:

For the purpose of this Article the words “personal day” means a day,
when an employee is excused from active duty for personal reasons.
Said time is deducted from the employee's accumulated sick leave. If no
sick leave is available, the employee is not eligible to receive a personal
day.
A full-time regular employee may use 6 days (“days” as defined under
Paragraph “A” above), of sick leave per calendar year for personal leave.
Personal days may be taken in half day increments.
Regular Part-Time Emplovees:

For the purpose of this Article the words “personal day" means a normal
workday, when an employee is excused from active duty for personal
reasons,
Said time is deducted from the employee's yearly sick leave balance. If no
sick leave is available, the employee is not eligible to receive a personal
day, unless the employee opts to take an available vacation day.
Only upon the discretion of the Chief of Police (or a Deputy Chief in his
absence) will a part-time employee be allowed to take a day off for
personal reasons without pay.
Part-time employees may use up to 6 days (“days” as defined under
Paragraph “A” under this section), sick days as personal days.
Approval of Personal Leave:
Personal Leave must be approved by your supervisor prior to the date of such personal
day, except in an emergency. If approved, the appropriate form will be completed by the
supervisor or employee. The form will be forwarded to the Financial Services Division.
Except in cases of emergency, the form will be approved/disapproved (pending the
availability of accrued sick leave}, and the employee will be notified by the Bureau
Commander or designee of its approval or disapproval.
